After 18 years teaching in Chicago Public Schools, I began to feel the weight of all of my creative ideas piling up . As a creative, my imagination is always hyperactive and I see opportunities to beautify almost everything around me. In the world of elementary school, I was well-known for having an amazing classroom. My love for creating spaces that felt like home, earned me a reputation and often teachers would request my assistance in their classrooms. I went from being the person chosen to write on almost every group poster assignment at our professional developments to the person asked to write on the actual school walls. One day, as I sat with two colleagues in a meeting about a meeting, they urged me to turn my talent into a business. Although Jea Jots was launched in 2017, I said a very difficult “good bye” to my role as an elementary school teacher in the summer of 2023. So, here we are today. I absolutely adore everything about Jea Jots. I truly find joy in helping people turn the mundane into the magnificent! For me, turning words into works of art is my true calling.
